Provide virtual critical care consultation, remote CCU/cardiac ICU monitoring, and multi-ICU clinical support — from home.
Virelia Health connects critical care registered nurses with opportunities across tele-critical care, virtual CCU support, and remote multi-ICU nursing.
We are seeking qualified Virtual Critical Care Nurses for remote opportunities supporting tele-critical care programs, health systems, critical care organizations, and digital critical care monitoring companies.
A Remote Virtual Critical Care Nurse provides virtual critical care consultation, remote CCU/cardiac ICU monitoring, and multi-ICU clinical support. Working within their state licensure and clinical scope of practice, the virtual critical care nurse monitors critical care patients remotely across cardiac ICU, medical ICU, surgical ICU, and other critical care settings, interprets complex hemodynamic and cardiac data, identifies clinical deterioration early, and supports bedside critical care teams with rapid clinical consultation and escalation.
This position is well-suited to an experienced critical care RN with cardiac ICU, medical ICU, surgical ICU, or tele-critical care experience who wants to practice in a virtual setting — providing meaningful critical care support with schedule flexibility and without the demands of a facility-based environment.
The specific tele-critical care program, ICU specialties covered, clinical model, and scope of responsibilities will depend on the employer and assignment.
This opportunity may be suitable for professionals searching for remote virtual critical care nurse jobs, work-from-home critical care nurse jobs, remote tele-critical care nurse jobs, virtual CCU nurse, or remote multi-ICU critical care RN roles.
Virtual critical care nursing runs on scheduled shift coverage and continuous multi-ICU monitoring, because critical care operates 24/7. Programs typically offer daytime, evening, overnight, or weekend coverage to support critical care patients around the clock. Many programs offer flexible 8-, 10-, or 12-hour shifts, and some RNs work 4-day compressed weeks or part-time schedules. There are no facility floor assignments and no physical demands. We offer both full-time and part-time positions. Discuss your preferred schedule during your interview.
As a Remote Virtual Critical Care Nurse, you may support critical care patients and clinical teams across a range of virtual critical care encounters.
Virtual critical care nursing is a growing area of critical care practice — driven by increased demand for critical care coverage, the national shortage of intensivists and critical care nurses, and the recognition that tele-critical care programs improve patient outcomes by extending critical care expertise to ICUs across health systems. Virtual critical care nurses extend critical care reach across multiple ICU specialties, support bedside teams, and improve critical care patient safety.
Depending on the program, virtual critical care nursing may focus on:
The virtual critical care nurse's role is to provide virtual critical care support within their licensure and scope of practice — including remote multi-ICU monitoring, complex clinical deterioration recognition, protocol support, clinical consultation, documentation, and appropriate emergency escalation. Clinical decisions, medication changes, and diagnostic decisions belong to the treating intensivist or critical care team; the virtual critical care nurse supports the critical care team and escalates clinical concerns promptly.
This structure keeps the role focused on remote multi-ICU monitoring, complex clinical deterioration recognition, protocol support, documentation, and appropriate clinical escalation.
Effective virtual critical care nursing depends on strong multi-ICU monitoring and complex clinical escalation — the RN's clinical judgment and critical care expertise determine how to help each critical care patient stay safe.
Depending on the program and clinical focus, you may support patients and clinical teams by:
Clinical judgment, critical care expertise, and clear communication are essential — virtual critical care nurses are the RNs who help critical care teams detect and respond to clinical deterioration in real time across multiple ICU specialties.
A Remote Virtual Critical Care Nurse may follow a structured workflow across each virtual critical care encounter.
Depending on the employer's protocols, you may:
If a critical care patient presents with acute clinical deterioration — respiratory failure, hemodynamic collapse, arrhythmia, sepsis, or another critical event — the virtual critical care nurse must follow the employer's emergency escalation protocol immediately, activating tele-critical care emergency protocols and coordinating with the bedside critical care team. Virtual critical care support does not replace emergency bedside care.
Experience or certification in any of the following may be beneficial:
A typical day may begin by logging into the tele-critical care platform, checking in with your shift lead, and reviewing the multi-ICU patient panel — admissions, active clinical concerns, and any pending interventions.
You'll monitor critical care patients continuously via the tele-critical care platform — reviewing vital signs, hemodynamic data, cardiac rhythms, ventilator settings, and infusion data, and identifying early warning signs of clinical deterioration.
Between monitoring activities, you'll coordinate with intensivists, cardiologists, bedside RNs, and rapid response teams — providing rapid clinical consultation, supporting sepsis recognition, and flagging patients meeting clinical deterioration criteria.
Throughout the shift, you'll support vasopressor titration guidance within defined tele-critical care protocols, support code blue response when clinically indicated, document virtual critical care encounters, and coordinate with the bedside critical care team on clinical escalations.
The role combines remote multi-ICU monitoring, complex clinical deterioration recognition, protocol support, critical care team consultation, documentation, and appropriate emergency escalation.
Unlike virtual ICU nursing, which focuses on a single ICU, virtual critical care nursing spans multiple ICU specialties — cardiac ICU, medical ICU, and surgical ICU — you're the critical care RN who supports critical care teams across all ICU types and helps them detect and respond to clinical deterioration in real time.
This position is designed for remote tele-critical care delivery.
Depending on the employer, you may work with:
Candidates should have a stable internet connection suitable for real-time multi-ICU monitoring, a private workspace suitable for confidential critical care consultation, and comfort with multiple tele-critical care and clinical systems.
Remote virtual critical care nurse roles are currently in highest demand in states with large health systems, tele-critical care adoption, and multi-ICU coverage gaps:
Top-demand states: California, Texas, Florida, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Georgia, North Carolina, Arizona, Colorado.
Strong secondary markets: Connecticut, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin.
Virtual critical care nurses must hold a current state RN license and must be authorized to practice in the state(s) where critical care patients are located. Some tele-critical care programs use multistate licensure through the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC); others require state-specific licensure for each ICU location. Requirements vary by employer. Always confirm the specific licensure requirements with the employer before applying.

Benefits are assignment-specific and may vary depending on whether the opportunity is full-time, part-time, contract, or direct hire. Depending on the employer, benefits may include:
Virtual critical care nursing is expanding rapidly — driven by increased demand for critical care coverage, the national shortage of intensivists and critical care nurses, and the recognition that tele-critical care programs improve patient outcomes by extending critical care expertise to ICUs across health systems.
Many critical care nurses find remote virtual critical care roles appealing because they offer:
