Remote Telehealth Pediatric Nurse

Support pediatric patients and families through virtual care — pediatric assessments, parent education, care plan reinforcement, and clinical coordination from home.

$32–$54 / hour 100% Remote Full-Time / Part-Time Multiple U.S. States

Job Overview

Virelia Health connects registered nurses with opportunities across virtual pediatric care, telehealth pediatric nursing, and digital pediatric programs.

We are seeking qualified Telehealth Pediatric Nurses for remote opportunities supporting virtual pediatric care companies, health systems, children's hospitals, health plans, and digital pediatric organizations.

A Remote Telehealth Pediatric Nurse supports virtual pediatric care — pediatric assessment, parent/caregiver education, and pediatric care coordination. Working within their state licensure and clinical scope of practice, the telehealth pediatric nurse supports pediatric patients and their families through virtual visits, parent education, care plan reinforcement, and coordination with pediatric providers.

This position is well-suited to a registered nurse with pediatric nursing, pediatric acute care, pediatric ambulatory care, or virtual pediatric care experience who wants to practice in a virtual setting — providing meaningful pediatric clinical work with schedule flexibility and without the demands of a facility-based environment.

The specific telehealth pediatric program, patient population (newborns, children, adolescents), clinical model, and scope of responsibilities will depend on the employer and assignment.

This opportunity may be suitable for professionals searching for remote telehealth pediatric nurse jobs, work-from-home pediatric RN jobs, remote pediatric nursing jobs, virtual pediatric nurse, or remote pediatric telehealth RN roles.

Scheduled Virtual Pediatric Care with Predictable Hours

Virtual pediatric nursing runs on scheduled virtual visits and outreach blocks, giving your clinical day predictability and structure. Programs typically offer daytime, evening, or weekend coverage to accommodate families and school-age patients. Many programs offer flexible 8- or 10-hour shifts, and some pediatric RNs work 4-day compressed weeks or part-time schedules. There are no facility floor assignments and no physical demands. We offer both full-time and part-time positions. Discuss your preferred schedule during your interview.

What You'll Do

As a Remote Telehealth Pediatric Nurse, you may support pediatric patients and families across a range of virtual pediatric encounters.

  • Support virtual pediatric visits alongside providers — pre-visit prep, visit support, and post-visit follow-up.
  • Conduct virtual pediatric assessments — pediatric symptom assessment, growth and development review, and clinical history.
  • Support pediatric patients with acute concerns — common childhood illnesses, minor injuries, and rashes.
  • Support pediatric patients with chronic conditions — asthma, diabetes, allergies, and other chronic pediatric conditions.
  • Provide parent/caregiver education on pediatric conditions, symptom management, and home care.
  • Support parents and caregivers with medication administration — dosing, schedules, and side effect monitoring.
  • Support parents with newborn and infant care — feeding, sleep, and development guidance.
  • Support parents with child development — milestones, behavior, and developmental concerns.
  • Reinforce provider care plans and clinical instructions.
  • Support pediatric triage — assessing symptoms and directing families to the appropriate level of care.
  • Coordinate care with pediatric providers, specialists, and community resources.
  • Document each patient encounter accurately in the EHR.
  • Identify patients with rising risk or unmet needs and escalate to the appropriate clinical team.
  • Support families in crisis — following crisis escalation protocols.
  • Participate in virtual pediatric care quality improvement, clinical review, and education.
  • Maintain current knowledge of pediatric guidelines, pediatric care best practices, and licensure requirements.
  • Protect patient privacy and maintain HIPAA compliance across all virtual pediatric care interactions.

Telehealth Pediatric Nursing Focus

Virtual pediatric nursing is a growing area of clinical practice — driven by increased demand for pediatric virtual care, payer coverage for telehealth, and health system investment in digital pediatric delivery. Telehealth pediatric nurses extend clinical reach, improve access to pediatric care, and support families with pediatric health needs.

Depending on the program, telehealth pediatric nursing may focus on:

Newborn and infant care
Pediatric acute care
Pediatric asthma and allergy
Pediatric diabetes
Pediatric preventive care
Parent/caregiver education

The telehealth pediatric nurse's role is to provide virtual pediatric nursing within their licensure and scope of practice — including pediatric assessment, parent/caregiver education, care plan reinforcement, documentation, and care coordination. Clinical decisions, medication changes, and diagnostic decisions belong to the treating providers; the telehealth pediatric nurse supports the patient's pediatric care and coordinates with the pediatric care team.

This structure keeps the role focused on pediatric assessment, parent/caregiver education, care plan reinforcement, documentation, and appropriate clinical escalation.

Pediatric Assessment & Parent/Caregiver Education

Effective telehealth pediatric nursing depends on strong pediatric assessment and parent/caregiver education — the RN's clinical judgment and communication skills determine how to help each child and family achieve their health goals.

Depending on the program and clinical focus, you may support patients and families by:

  • Conducting virtual pediatric assessments — pediatric symptom assessment, growth and development review, and clinical history.
  • Supporting pediatric patients with acute concerns — common childhood illnesses, minor injuries, and rashes.
  • Supporting pediatric patients with chronic conditions — asthma, diabetes, allergies, and other chronic pediatric conditions.
  • Providing parent/caregiver education on pediatric conditions, symptom management, and home care.
  • Supporting parents and caregivers with medication administration — dosing, schedules, and side effect monitoring.
  • Supporting parents with newborn and infant care — feeding, sleep, and development guidance.
  • Supporting parents with child development — milestones, behavior, and developmental concerns.
  • Reinforcing provider care plans and clinical instructions.
  • Coordinating care with pediatric providers, specialists, and community resources.
  • Documenting each patient encounter accurately and consistently.
  • Escalating concerning clinical findings to the appropriate clinical team.
  • Following crisis escalation protocols when patients report urgent clinical symptoms.

Clinical judgment, parent engagement skills, and consistency are essential — telehealth pediatric nursing requires a strong family-centered orientation and the ability to help parents and caregivers manage their child's health with confidence.

Telehealth Pediatric Workflow

A Remote Telehealth Pediatric Nurse may follow a structured workflow across each virtual pediatric encounter.

Depending on the employer's protocols, you may:

Review Patient Panel Virtual Visit / Outreach Assess Patient Educate Parent/Caregiver Reinforce Care Plan Document Encounter Escalate If Needed

Pediatric Clinical Escalation & Patient Safety

If a pediatric patient presents with acute clinical symptoms, urgent safety concerns, or other urgent needs during any virtual interaction, the RN must follow the employer's clinical escalation protocol immediately — including directing the family to call 911, contact their pediatric provider, or seek emergency care as appropriate. Virtual pediatric care does not replace emergency care.

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN license in good standing in the state(s) required by the employer.
  • Previous clinical experience in pediatric nursing, pediatric acute care, pediatric ambulatory care, or virtual pediatric care.
  • Strong pediatric assessment, parent/caregiver education, and pediatric care coordination skills.
  • Comfortable with telehealth platforms, EHR systems, and virtual pediatric care workflows.
  • Strong documentation and time-management skills.
  • Ability to recognize situations requiring clinical escalation.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
  • Reliable internet suitable for real-time video and a private workspace suitable for confidential patient conversations.

A Typical Day

A typical day may begin by reviewing your virtual pediatric panel — checking patient names, recent clinical notes, upcoming virtual visits, and any pediatric outreach that is due.

You'll support virtual pediatric visits alongside providers — pre-visit prep, visit support, and post-visit follow-up. Depending on the program, you may also provide independent RN-led virtual pediatric support for parent education, care plan reinforcement, and chronic condition check-ins.

Between encounters, you'll provide parent/caregiver education, reinforce care plans, coordinate care with pediatric providers and specialists, and document each patient encounter accurately.

Throughout the day, you'll support pediatric patients with acute and chronic conditions, support parents and caregivers with medication administration and home care, escalate concerning clinical findings to the appropriate clinical team, and follow up with families who need extra support.

The role combines virtual pediatric assessment, parent/caregiver education, care plan reinforcement, documentation, and appropriate clinical escalation.

Unlike broad telehealth nursing, pediatric telehealth nursing focuses specifically on pediatric patients and their families — you're the RN who supports children's health and helps parents and caregivers manage their child's care with confidence.
