Remote Registered Dietitian

Provide Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT), clinical nutrition counseling, and chronic disease nutrition management — from home.

$30–$52 / hour 100% Remote Full-Time / Part-Time Multiple U.S. States

Job Overview

Virelia Health connects Registered Dietitians with opportunities across virtual nutrition care, Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT), and remote chronic disease nutrition management.

We are seeking qualified Registered Dietitians (RD/RDN) for remote opportunities supporting telehealth nutrition companies, health systems, physician practices, managed care organizations, and healthcare organizations.

A Remote Registered Dietitian provides clinical nutrition counseling, Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT), and virtual nutrition care for patients with chronic conditions. Working within their RD/RDN scope, the Registered Dietitian conducts nutrition assessments, provides MNT for diabetes, renal, cardiac, GI, weight management, and other chronic conditions, and supports patient nutrition education through secure telehealth platforms.

This position is well-suited to an experienced Registered Dietitian with MNT knowledge, chronic disease nutrition management experience, and virtual counseling skills who wants to work in a virtual setting — providing meaningful clinical nutrition care with schedule flexibility and without the demands of a facility-based environment.

The specific nutrition specialty, patient population, and scope of responsibilities will depend on the employer and assignment.

This opportunity may be suitable for professionals searching for remote Registered Dietitian jobs, work-from-home dietitian jobs, virtual dietitian jobs, telenutrition jobs, or telehealth RD jobs.

Structured Virtual Nutrition Care with Predictable Hours

Virtual nutrition care runs on scheduled patient counseling sessions and nutrition documentation workflows, giving your workday predictability and structure. Programs typically offer daytime weekday coverage, with some programs supporting early-morning or early-evening patient sessions. Many programs offer flexible 8- or 10-hour days, and some dietitians work 4-day compressed weeks or part-time schedules. There are no facility floor assignments and no physical demands. We offer both full-time and part-time positions. Discuss your preferred schedule during your interview.

Virtual Registered Dietitian Focus

Virtual nutrition care is a growing area of healthcare — driven by increased demand for dietitian services, expanded telehealth coverage for nutrition counseling, and the recognition that Registered Dietitians improve patient nutrition outcomes through evidence-based Medical Nutrition Therapy. Virtual dietitians extend nutrition care reach, support patients in their communities, and improve nutrition outcomes across organizations.

Depending on the program, virtual nutrition care may focus on:

Diabetes nutrition
Renal nutrition
Cardiac nutrition
Weight management
GI nutrition
Nutrition compliance

The dietitian's role is to provide nutrition care within their RD/RDN scope — including nutrition assessment, nutrition diagnosis, nutrition intervention, nutrition monitoring and evaluation, nutrition counseling, and nutrition documentation. Clinical decisions remain with the dietitian within their RD/RDN scope and with the supervising clinical team; the dietitian coordinates with care teams, providers, and other clinicians.

This structure keeps the role focused on MNT, chronic disease nutrition management, patient education, documentation, and nutrition counseling quality.

Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) & Chronic Disease Nutrition Support

Effective virtual nutrition care depends on strong MNT knowledge and chronic disease nutrition expertise — the dietitian's clinical skills and patient-centered counseling approach determine how to help patients achieve nutrition outcomes through evidence-based nutrition care.

Depending on the program and clinical focus, you may support virtual nutrition care by:

  • Conducting nutrition assessments — comprehensive nutrition assessments and re-assessments.
  • Providing MNT — evidence-based MNT for chronic conditions.
  • Supporting diabetes nutrition care — diabetes nutrition counseling and carbohydrate management.
  • Supporting renal nutrition care — renal nutrition counseling and renal diet education.
  • Supporting cardiac nutrition care — cardiac nutrition counseling and heart-healthy diets.
  • Supporting GI nutrition care — GI nutrition counseling and therapeutic diets.
  • Supporting weight management — weight management counseling and behavior change.
  • Supporting bariatric nutrition — pre- and post-bariatric nutrition counseling.
  • Supporting pediatric nutrition — pediatric nutrition and family-based education.
  • Supporting maternal nutrition — prenatal, postpartum, and lactation nutrition.
  • Developing nutrition care plans — individualized nutrition care plans and goals.
  • Supporting nutrition counseling quality improvement and patient engagement improvement.

Clinical expertise, patient-centered counseling skills, and clear communication are essential — Registered Dietitians are the clinical nutrition professionals who help patients achieve nutrition outcomes through evidence-based nutrition care.

Virtual Registered Dietitian Workflow

A Remote Registered Dietitian may follow a structured workflow across each virtual nutrition care encounter.

Depending on the employer's protocols, you may:

Review Patient Referral Conduct Nutrition Assessment Provide MNT Develop Nutrition Care Plan Provide Nutrition Education Monitor & Evaluate Progress Escalate If Needed

Clinical Documentation & HIPAA Compliance

Virtual nutrition care directly affects patient nutrition outcomes, patient safety, and clinical documentation. All nutrition care must comply with RD/RDN scope of practice, state licensure requirements, evidence-based nutrition guidelines, and organizational clinical policy. Clinical concerns requiring clinical leadership input, patient safety concerns, or nutrition care issues affecting patient outcomes must be escalated following the employer's escalation protocol. Registered Dietitians must maintain HIPAA compliance and protect patient data across all virtual nutrition care work.

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential required.
  • Active state licensure where applicable (or licensure eligibility).
  • Previous experience as a Registered Dietitian in clinical, outpatient, or telehealth settings.

A Typical Day

A typical day may begin by reviewing patient referrals, scheduled counseling sessions, and nutrition documentation — checking virtual nutrition care priorities and patient caseload.

You'll conduct nutrition assessments — completing comprehensive nutrition assessments for new and returning patients, including diet history, anthropometrics, labs, medical history, and nutrition-focused physical exam findings.

You'll provide MNT and nutrition education — delivering evidence-based MNT, developing individualized nutrition care plans, and providing nutrition education to patients with chronic conditions.

Between counseling sessions, you'll support nutrition monitoring, nutrition documentation, and care team coordination, and document nutrition care accurately in nutrition documentation systems and EHR.

Throughout the day, you'll coordinate with care teams, providers, and other clinicians, and support nutrition care compliance with RD/RDN scope, state licensure, and evidence-based guidelines.

The role combines Medical Nutrition Therapy, chronic disease nutrition management, patient education, documentation, and nutrition counseling quality.

Unlike Nursing roles, which focus on general patient care, Registered Dietitian work focuses specifically on nutrition assessment and Medical Nutrition Therapy — you're the clinical nutrition professional who helps patients achieve nutrition outcomes through evidence-based nutrition care.
