Remote Health Coach

Guide individuals toward healthier lives — supporting lifestyle change, preventive habits, stress management, and general well-being through structured virtual coaching.

$18–$30 / hour 100% Remote Full-Time / Part-Time Multiple U.S. States

Job Overview

Virelia Health connects healthcare professionals with opportunities across virtual wellness coaching, digital preventive health, and corporate wellbeing programs.

We are seeking qualified Health Coaches for remote opportunities supporting corporate wellness programs, health plans, digital coaching platforms, and general health promotion companies.

A Remote Health Coach supports individuals through structured wellness coaching — focusing on lifestyle habits, stress management, sleep, nutrition, physical activity, and general well-being. Working within established coaching protocols, the health coach helps clients set meaningful goals, build sustainable habits, and stay motivated over time.

This is a general wellness coaching role — not a clinical role and not a chronic-care coaching role. Health coaches do not provide clinical advice, medical nutrition therapy, or chronic disease management. Their focus is on the everyday habits and choices that shape long-term well-being. For clinical care, clients are referred to their healthcare providers.

This position is well-suited to someone with health coaching, wellness coaching, corporate wellness, or health promotion experience who wants to help people build healthier lives through structured virtual coaching relationships.

The specific coaching program, population, technology platform, and scope of responsibilities will depend on the employer and assignment.

This opportunity may be suitable for professionals searching for remote health coach jobs, virtual health coach, work-from-home wellness coach, remote wellness coaching jobs, or digital health coaching jobs roles.

Consistent Coaching Cadence with Predictable Sessions

Health coaching programs run on scheduled session cadences — typically weekly or bi-weekly calls with each client on your panel. This gives your day structure and predictability, with regular session blocks, steady client rosters, and clear start and end times. Most programs run weekday business hours with occasional extended-hour options, and many coaches work 4-day or compressed weeks. There are no overnight shifts, no emergency response, and no clinical decision pressure. We offer both full-time and part-time positions. Discuss your preferred schedule during your interview.

What You'll Do

As a Remote Health Coach, you may support clients across a structured wellness coaching program.

  • Conduct scheduled virtual coaching sessions with clients by phone or video.
  • Build supportive coaching relationships based on trust, empathy, and consistency.
  • Use motivational interviewing techniques to help clients identify their own goals and priorities.
  • Support clients in setting realistic, measurable goals for lifestyle and well-being.
  • Coach clients on nutrition, physical activity, sleep, stress management, and other lifestyle factors.
  • Help clients build sustainable habits — starting small and building over time.
  • Support clients in identifying and working through barriers to behavior change.
  • Reinforce general health education provided by the client's healthcare team — without providing clinical advice.
  • Document each coaching session accurately in the program platform.
  • Track client progress toward goals and adjust coaching approaches over time.
  • Coordinate with wellness program staff, care teams, and health plan teams as needed.
  • Escalate any clinical question, symptom, or medical concern to the appropriate clinical or program team per protocol.
  • Encourage ongoing client engagement with the coaching program.
  • Participate in coaching team meetings, case reviews, and quality improvement activities.
  • Protect client privacy and maintain HIPAA compliance across all coaching interactions.

General Wellness Coaching Focus

Health coaching is one of the fastest-growing areas of digital wellness — driven by employer investment in workforce wellbeing, health plan interest in preventive care, and clear evidence that coaching supports healthy behavior change.

Depending on the program, general wellness coaching may focus on:

Nutrition and healthy eating
Physical activity
Sleep habits
Stress management
Weight management support
General well-being

The health coach's role is non-clinical — supporting lifestyle change, motivation, and general well-being. Health coaches do not diagnose, prescribe, provide clinical advice, provide medical nutrition therapy, or manage chronic conditions. Any clinical question, symptom, or concern that requires clinical judgment is escalated to the appropriate clinical or program team immediately.

This structure keeps the role focused on coaching relationships, goal setting, lifestyle support, documentation, and appropriate escalation.

Motivational Interviewing & Behavior Change

Motivational interviewing and structured behavior-change techniques are the foundation of effective health coaching — the skills that help clients move from intention to sustained action.

You may help clients:

  • Identify what matters most to them and why change is worth pursuing.
  • Set goals that feel meaningful, achievable, and personally motivating.
  • Break larger goals into small, sustainable steps.
  • Recognize patterns that get in the way of progress — without judgment.
  • Build confidence through small wins and reflection.
  • Develop self-management skills they can maintain long-term.
  • Return to their plan after setbacks without abandoning it entirely.
  • Celebrate progress and stay engaged with their well-being over time.

Empathy, patience, and structured coaching skills are essential — behavior change is hard, and the coach's steady, non-judgmental presence is what makes sustained progress possible.

Health Coach Workflow

A Remote Health Coach may follow a structured workflow across each client relationship.

Depending on the employer's protocols, you may:

Review Client Roster Scheduled Session Goal Check-In Behavior Coaching Reinforce Plan Document Session Escalate If Needed

Non-Clinical Scope & Escalation

Health coaches operate within a clearly non-clinical scope. Any client question, symptom, or concern that requires clinical judgment — including medication questions, symptom interpretation, or medical advice — is escalated to the appropriate clinical or program team per the employer's protocol. Coaching never replaces clinical care.

Required Qualifications

  • Previous experience in health coaching, wellness coaching, patient education, corporate wellness, or health promotion.
  • Strong motivational interviewing and coaching communication skills.
  • Comfortable with digital coaching platforms, wellness apps, and documentation systems.
  • Ability to follow structured coaching protocols consistently.
  • Strong documentation skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to recognize situations requiring clinical escalation.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
  • Reliable internet and a private workspace suitable for confidential client conversations.

A Typical Day

A typical day may begin by reviewing your client roster — checking which clients have scheduled sessions, who has upcoming goal check-ins, and who has recently started or completed a coaching module.

You'll connect with clients by phone or video for scheduled sessions, using motivational interviewing to explore progress, setbacks, and what feels most important to them next.

Between sessions, you'll document your coaching notes, coordinate with program staff on any escalated concerns, and follow up with clients who have missed sessions or need extra support.

The role combines coaching sessions, behavior-change support, goal tracking, documentation, and appropriate escalation.

Unlike clinical roles, health coaching is focused on the person's daily life and habits — supporting the choices and behaviors that shape how they feel over time, without managing any medical condition.
