Remote LPN Quality Improvement Nurse

Support HEDIS measures, care gap closure, and clinical quality improvement programs — helping health plans and providers improve outcomes from home.

$27–$40 / hour 100% Remote Full-Time / Part-Time Multiple U.S. States

Job Overview

Virelia Health connects healthcare professionals with opportunities across nursing, managed care, population health, and clinical quality improvement programs.

We are seeking qualified LVNs/LPNs for remote quality improvement opportunities supporting health plans, ACOs, provider organizations, and population health teams.

A Remote LPN Quality Improvement Nurse supports healthcare organizations in measuring and improving clinical quality — typically through HEDIS measure review, care gap identification and closure, chart audits, and coordination of quality improvement initiatives. Unlike utilization review or appeals (which focus on individual coverage decisions), QI work focuses on patterns — identifying where quality metrics are falling short and coordinating programs to improve them.

This position is well-suited to an LVN who enjoys analytical work, data-driven problem solving, and improving care at the population level rather than one case at a time.

The specific quality programs, HEDIS measure sets, technology, and scope of responsibilities will depend on the employer and assignment.

This opportunity may be suitable for professionals searching for remote LPN quality improvement jobs, remote quality improvement nurse, remote HEDIS nurse, remote care gap nurse, work-from-home quality nurse, or remote population health LVN roles.

Project-Based Rhythm with Predictable Reporting Cycles

Quality improvement work runs on annual quality calendars and quarterly reporting cycles — so your workflow is structured around measure deadlines rather than daily patient volumes. There are no shift rotations, no overnight hours, and no on-call. Most QI teams run Monday–Friday during business hours, with heavier workloads during HEDIS season (typically January–May) and lighter periods during summer months. We offer both full-time and part-time positions, and many QI nurses work flexible start times or 4-day compressed schedules. Discuss your preferred rhythm during your interview.

What You'll Do

As a Remote LPN Quality Improvement Nurse, you may support health plans and provider organizations in measuring, analyzing, and improving clinical quality metrics.

  • Review clinical documentation to identify HEDIS care gaps (screenings, labs, immunizations, medication adherence, follow-up requirements).
  • Perform chart reviews and data validation to support quality reporting.
  • Contact providers and clinical offices to request missing documentation or clarify quality measure evidence.
  • Support member outreach for care gap closure — reminding members of overdue screenings, labs, or preventive services.
  • Coordinate quality improvement projects using established frameworks (PDSA, root cause analysis, process mapping).
  • Document quality findings, intervention activities, and outcomes accurately in the QI platform or EHR.
  • Identify trends in care gaps across populations, providers, or regions.
  • Support HEDIS, Star Ratings, and CAHPS data collection and submission activities.
  • Coordinate with care management, provider relations, and member outreach teams.
  • Prepare or assist with quality committee reports and audit documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with NCQA, CMS, and health plan quality reporting requirements.
  • Participate in quality improvement committee meetings, root cause analysis, and intervention planning.
  • Protect confidential member and provider information and follow HIPAA requirements.

Quality Improvement Focus

Quality improvement nursing helps healthcare organizations understand where care is falling short of measurable quality benchmarks — and coordinates the interventions that close those gaps.

Depending on the program, quality improvement work may involve:

HEDIS measure review
Medicare Star Ratings support
Care gap closure
Chart audits & validation
Member outreach for screenings
Provider quality reporting

The LVN's role is to support data collection, documentation review, member outreach, and coordination — not to independently determine quality scores or final measure compliance. Complex measure interpretations or program decisions are escalated to an RN, quality director, or analytics team according to the employer's protocol.

This structure keeps the role focused on chart review, care gap identification, member communication, documentation, and quality improvement coordination.

Provider & Member Outreach

Quality improvement is collaborative — it depends on clear communication with both providers and members to close care gaps.

You may communicate with:

  • Provider offices to request missing documentation or clarify quality measure evidence.
  • Members to remind them of overdue screenings, labs, or annual wellness visits.
  • Quality directors and analytics teams within the health plan.
  • Care management and care coordination teams.
  • Pharmacy teams when medication adherence measures apply.
  • Practice managers and clinical staff at participating provider groups.

Communication should be factual, respectful, and aligned with the organization's quality improvement goals.

Review & Improvement Cycle

A Remote LPN Quality Improvement Nurse may follow a structured improvement cycle across each quality program.

Depending on the employer's protocols, you may:

Identify Care Gap Review Data Analyze Root Cause Develop Intervention Coordinate Implementation Measure Outcomes Report Results

Program Compliance

Quality programs are governed by strict regulatory and accreditation requirements. The exact reporting, audit, and escalation process will be defined by the employer and must always be followed.

Required Qualifications

  • Current LPN or LVN license applicable to the specific assignment.
  • Nursing education appropriate for LPN/LVN practice.
  • Clinical nursing experience with exposure to quality metrics, care gap closure, or population health.
  • Familiarity with HEDIS measures and quality reporting concepts (training provided for qualified candidates).
  • Strong analytical and chart review skills.
  • Comfortable using computers, EHR systems, and quality reporting platforms.
  • Strong documentation skills and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable communicating with provider offices and members.
  • Ability to manage multiple quality projects and meet reporting deadlines.
  • Ability to recognize situations requiring escalation.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling member and provider information.

A Typical Day

A typical day may begin by reviewing the current HEDIS measure dashboard and identifying care gaps or documentation needs assigned to you.

You may then perform chart reviews to validate quality measure evidence — checking whether a screening, lab, or preventive service is documented according to HEDIS specifications.

When documentation is missing or unclear, you may contact provider offices to request additional clinical evidence or clarification.

In parallel, you may support member outreach activities — contacting members about overdue screenings or labs and connecting them with resources to complete recommended care.

You'll document your findings, intervention activities, and outcomes in the quality reporting platform, and flag patterns that may indicate a need for a broader improvement intervention.

The role combines chart review, data analysis, provider and member communication, documentation, and quality improvement coordination.

Unlike bedside nursing, quality improvement work is analytical, project-driven, and typically performed during standard business hours.

Remote Work Environment

This position is designed for remote healthcare quality improvement work.

Depending on the employer, you may work with:

Quality reporting platforms
Electronic health records
HEDIS measure dashboards
Secure messaging systems
Provider & member call systems
Clinical documentation portals

Candidates should be comfortable learning multiple healthcare technology platforms and working with data-driven quality workflows.

Because member and provider information is involved, candidates should have an appropriate professional environment for confidential healthcare communication and documentation.

Licensure & State Eligibility

Quality improvement nurse roles are currently in highest demand in states with major health plan headquarters, large ACO networks, and heavy Medicare Advantage and Medicaid managed care enrollment:

Top markets (payer HQs + value-based care hubs): California, Texas, Florida, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Georgia, North Carolina, Minnesota, Connecticut.

Strong secondary markets: Arizona, Colorado, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Jersey, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin.

Also eligible: All other states where the employer operates, subject to state-specific licensure rules.

Applicants with an active LPN or LVN license, or an eligible multistate compact license, may apply. Final eligibility depends on the states in which the employer's members are located, the employer's requirements, and the licensing rules applicable to the specific position.

Medical insurance
Dental coverage
Vision coverage
Paid time off
Retirement savings options
Professional development

Employee assistance programs
Flexible scheduling
Remote-work arrangements

Eligibility, waiting periods, and specific benefit terms are confirmed with the employer during the offer stage.

Why Consider Remote Quality Improvement Nursing?

Quality improvement nursing is one of the most analytical remote specialties — it appeals to nurses who like thinking about systems rather than just individual cases. Every health plan, ACO, and large provider organization in the country runs quality programs to maintain accreditation and improve outcomes.

Many nurses find quality improvement appealing because it offers:

  • Analytical, data-driven work — you're looking at patterns, not individual patients.
  • Predictable weekday schedule with no overnight shifts or weekend rotations.
  • Population-level impact — small interventions can improve outcomes for thousands of members.
  • Career pathway into quality leadership, analytics, population health, or compliance.
  • Steady employer demand — every health plan and ACO hires for this function.

It may be particularly suitable for LVNs who enjoy data analysis, systems thinking, chart review, and improving care at scale.
