Support lab teams with results tracking, lab data entry, and lab order support — from home. No certification needed.
Virelia Health connects Lab Support Assistants with remote opportunities across healthcare organizations — hospitals, medical practices, specialty clinics, diagnostic labs, and lab teams.
We are seeking motivated Remote Lab Support Assistants for entry-level and early-career opportunities supporting lab teams across the United States.
A Remote Lab Support Assistant supports lab teams with lab results tracking, lab data entry, lab order support, lab documentation, and lab communication support for healthcare organizations. Working within the lab team's support scope, the Lab Support Assistant is the detail-driven professional who supports the lab's day-to-day work — tracking lab results, entering lab data, supporting lab orders, and documenting lab activity — so the lab team can focus on testing, analysis, and clinical interpretation.
No lab certification is required. No prior healthcare or lab experience is required. Paid training is provided. This role is well-suited to candidates who are detail-oriented, comfortable with lab data and lab systems, and take pride in accurate support work — including career changers, recent graduates, and first-time remote workers coming from lab, medical office, patient support, or administrative roles.
The specific healthcare organization, lab focus, and scope of responsibilities will depend on the employer and assignment.
This opportunity may be suitable for professionals searching for lab support jobs, remote lab support assistant, work-from-home lab jobs no certification, entry-level healthcare jobs no experience, non-certified lab jobs, or virtual lab support roles.
This is a non-certified lab support role — no MLT, MLS, or other lab certification is required. Employers provide paid training on lab workflows, lab results tracking, lab data entry, lab systems, lab documentation, and HIPAA compliance. Important: This role supports certified lab professionals — it does not involve performing tests, analyzing specimens, or providing lab interpretation, which remain with licensed lab staff. If you are interested in lab work but don't yet have your MLT or MLS, this is an excellent way to build experience, earn income, and prepare for certification.
This is a true entry-level role. No prior healthcare or lab experience is required. Employers provide paid training on lab workflows, lab results tracking, lab data entry, lab orders support, lab systems (LIS), lab documentation, and HIPAA compliance. If you are detail-oriented, comfortable with lab data and lab systems, and can learn new software, you're a great fit. Many of our Lab Support Assistants come from lab, medical office, patient support, and administrative roles.
Remote lab support runs on scheduled lab hours, results queues, and lab order cycles, giving your workday predictability and structure. Programs typically offer daytime weekday coverage, with some lab teams supporting early morning, evening, or weekend coverage to match lab hours. Many assistants work flexible 8-hour days, and some work part-time schedules around school or family commitments. There are no clinical duties, minimal patient-facing work, and no in-person office requirements; the role is system- and data-based support. We offer both full-time and part-time positions. Discuss your preferred schedule during your interview.
As a Remote Lab Support Assistant, you may support the lab team across a range of lab support tasks.
Remote lab support is a growing area — driven by increased demand for lab capacity, expanded remote lab workflows, and the recognition that dedicated Lab Support Assistants improve lab throughput, reduce lab staff administrative burden, and improve results turnaround. Remote Lab Support Assistants extend lab capacity, support lab teams, and improve lab outcomes across organizations.
Depending on the program, lab support may focus on:
The Lab Support Assistant's role is to provide lab support within the lab team's support scope — including results tracking, lab data entry, lab order support, specimen tracking support, documentation, and lab communications support. Clinical decisions, lab testing decisions, lab result interpretation, and clinical judgment remain with licensed lab staff, providers, and clinical leadership. The Lab Support Assistant supports the lab process and coordinates with lab staff, providers, and clinical teams.
This structure keeps the role focused on lab results tracking, lab data entry, lab orders, documentation, and lab support outcomes.
The Lab Support Assistant handles the support work that keeps the lab moving — lab results need to be tracked, lab data needs to be entered, lab orders need to be coordinated, and every action needs to be documented. You'll track lab results (from receipt through reporting), enter lab result data (accurately into lab systems), support lab orders (entry and tracking), support specimen tracking (workflows), support reference labs (orders and results), support lab documentation (accurately), and support lab communications (with providers, clinical teams, and patients per policy).
Depending on the lab focus, you may support the team by:
Detail orientation, comfort with lab data, and reliability are essential — Lab Support Assistants help lab teams stay efficient and accurate.
A Remote Lab Support Assistant may follow a structured workflow across each lab cycle.
Depending on the employer's protocols, you may:
Lab support work directly involves patient information, including names, contact details, lab orders, lab results, specimens, diagnoses, and healthcare context. All lab support work must comply with HIPAA privacy rules, organizational patient privacy policy, lab documentation standards, and applicable lab regulations. Lab Support Assistants do not perform tests, analyze specimens, interpret lab results, provide clinical advice, or make lab-level decisions. Clinical concerns, lab result questions, and situations requiring clinical judgment must be escalated to licensed lab staff or clinical teams following the employer's escalation protocol. Lab Support Assistants must maintain HIPAA compliance and protect patient data across all lab support work.
Experience or background in any of the following may be beneficial — but none are required:
A typical day may begin by logging into the lab system (LIS) — reviewing the day's results queue, checking pending lab orders, and identifying any priority results or escalations from the previous shift.
You'll review the lab queue — scanning new results and pending lab orders and identifying what support work needs to be done.
You'll support lab orders — entering lab order data accurately, verifying order details, and supporting specimen tracking workflows.
You'll track results — tracking lab results from receipt through reporting, following up on pending results with reference labs, and flagging delayed results.
You'll enter lab data — entering lab result data accurately into the LIS and supporting documentation of lab activity.
You'll support results delivery — supporting delivery of results to providers and clinical teams per lab policy, and supporting critical result notifications per protocol.
You'll document and track — recording each support action accurately in the lab system and updating lab trackers and logs.
You'll escalate when needed — routing clinical questions, unusual results, and lab questions to lab staff and clinical teams per protocol.
Between tasks, you'll coordinate with lab staff, providers, clinical teams, and reference labs, and support lab reporting and continuous improvement efforts.
Throughout the day, you'll work across lab, EHR, and clinical systems, document your lab support activity accurately, support lab quality goals, and maintain HIPAA compliance across all lab support work.
The role combines lab results tracking, lab data entry, lab order support, specimen tracking support, documentation, and lab support outcomes.
